Things to do

The small village of Etyek, just west of Budapest, is famous for wine making. In fact, the locals affectionately refer to Etyek as Hungary’s Napa Valley. It’s all on a much smaller scale of course, but if you are into wine and nature Etyek is worth a visit and its proximity to Budapest makes it ideal for a day trip.

Etyek lies in the northeastern part of Fejér County, at the starting point of the Etyek Hills. Etyek as the vineyard of Budapest dates back to the middle of the 1860’s. Hundreds of stone cellars were built at that time, most of them are still in use today. Wine making was developing fast, special wine making equipment, monumental grape presses still in operation were made.

The historical Round Cellar, the Goat’s hole, the cellars of the Sóskút road, the unique press houses, and beautiful wineyard hills, the heritage of wine making are the sentinels of the past, and show a great respect towards the tradition of wine culture.
